Our Story
Kincottage was born three years ago, when a group of parents sought something different for their little ones. Covid created drastic shifts in so many people's experience of schooling, and gave them a new perspective of what they wanted in life: for themselves and for their families. It became clear that different methods of education served a purpose too, and perhaps a growing purpose in our evolving world.
We were invited to take over the education of a few children, and were given two weeks to establish a classroom, prepare the environment, assimilate all of the CAPS content and requirements into useable lists, devise a strategy for teaching to different age groups(we had a 4year old and 9year old in the same class), and begin teaching! While this might sound like a whirlwind of chaos and plenty to do - it didn't feel that way. Everything just fell into place. It felt right.

As time passed, we realised just how many parents were seeking something different for their children and that there was a deep value in what we had created. We are uniquely positioned to offer what we do as a result of our upbringing, being fully immersed in the Montessori approach during our early years, venturing into the traditional schooling systems, and constantly revisiting Montessori at our moms' schools. Throughout our personal lives nature has placed an important role in shaping who we are and what we value. This shared understanding, has encouraged us to immerse our educational offering in nature, so that our children can learn all of her wonders and come to care for the Earth.Up to now we have been operating out of a small room in the most wonderful old BnB owned by one of our children's Grandparents whom we have adopted as our own. All the while we had been searching for our forever home: a space where we could provide our children with everything that they deserve. And just like all things Kincottage, our home found us.
At the end of 2023, we took a leap and moved to a haven in Mount Moreland where we have access to nature, chickens roaming in the garden, trees to climb, a sense of calm and peace in our chaotic world, and safety to just BE.
