Kincottage Elementary
Our elementary children (grade 1 - 3) follow a blended curriculum, combining Montessori, The Good and the Beautiful, and individualised learning inquiries. Each morning the children check their task books, discovering what lies ahead. They are then responsible for managing their time, completing their activities, approaching us for individualised lessons, and initiating additional learning inquiries during their work cycle. After break, we conduct group lessons, exploring Languages (Afrikaans & Zulu), Science, Life Skills, Music, Physical Education, Library, and Art.
We ensure that all of our children reach, at minimum, their age-appropriate CAPS learning requirements. However, since our children are directing their own learning along interest, they often surpass these requirements.

Individualised Learning
Montessori classrooms cater to the individual needs, interests, and learning styles of each child. This personalized approach allows children to progress at their own pace and explore subjects deeply, fostering a love for learning.

Promotion of Creativity & Critical Thinking
Montessori classrooms encourage children to think creatively, and problem-solve. Through open-ended activities and freedom of choice, children develop critical thinking skills and learn to approach challenges with confidence and resilience.

Emphasis on Social and Emotional Development
Montessori education values the social and emotional development of children as much as their academic growth. Children learn to respect themselves and others, communicate effectively, and navigate conflicts peacefully. This lays a strong foundation for healthy relationships and emotional well-being.

Hands-on Learning
Montessori materials are designed to be engaging and concrete, providing children with hands-on learning experiences. This tactile approach helps children understand abstract concepts more easily and promotes active engagement in the learning process.

Development of Life Skills
Montessori education emphasizes the development of practical life skills such as cooking, cleaning, gardening, and time management. These skills empower children to become independent, responsible individuals capable of taking care of themselves and contributing to their communities.

Focus on Peace Education
Montessori classrooms promote values of peace, empathy, and social justice. Children learn to appreciate diversity, resolve conflicts peacefully, and become responsible global citizens committed to making positive contributions to society.

Holistic Curriculum
Montessori education integrates subjects in a holistic manner, allowing children to see the interconnectedness of knowledge. Lessons often incorporate multiple disciplines, providing children with a comprehensive understanding of topics.

Mixed Age Classrooms
In Montessori elementary classrooms, children of different ages learn together. This allows for peer mentoring, collaboration, and social development as older children model behavior and offer assistance to younger ones, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect.

Collaborative Learning
Children naturally gravitate towards working in groups. During these times they learn valuable communication and collaboration skills, such as sharing tasks and responsibilities, asking for assistance, clarifying what is required of them, understanding compromise and conducting themselves in an appropriate manner.
